AthenaOnline

AthenaOnline

Founded in 1994 AthenaOnline is one of the originators of microlearning and one of the first cloud—based, SaaS (Software as a Service) companies in the learning industry. Athena started delivering video over the Internet before YouTube was launched and had one of the first solutions for mobile learning (m-learning), which became an Apple iPhone staff pick in 2008. Our breakthrough approaches in e-learning have won numerous industry awards over the years and have been written about in many publications, including Fortune and WIRED magazines.

AthenaOnline was founded with the concept that people learned a lot in classroom environments, but they were inconvenient to attend and covered more than most learners could retain. Books were a clear alternative, but few people read business books. Realizing that technology might help bridge the gap between those who have business expertise and those who need it Athena’s founder, Jon Peters, started AthenaOnline with support from Boeing, McKesson, Chubb, NYNEX and The Institute for Management Studies.

As the Internet became more robust and was able to deliver a more compelling experience than simple text pages Athena shifted gears, first with its award-winning interactive courses based on video game principles (gamification) and later with a focus on bite-sized learning content. The MyQuickCoach microlearning platform was officially launched in September of 2001.

Innolect has partnered with AthenaOnline to offer the following resources:

Amanda Hammett – Millennial Translator

Amanda Hammett – Millennial Translator

Amanda Hammett was hired out of college as one of the youngest Technical Recruiters for IBM. After leaving IBM, she launched two separate multi-million dollar companies, prior to her 26th birthday. Amanda led these companies to a large client base across 85 of the world’s 196 countries.

By relying on her experiences as an entrepreneur and employer, she has a keen sense of the disconnects that the millennial generation is facing when entering the workforce as well as the difficulties corporate America faces in recruiting and retaining the best talent.
Over the past 5 years, Amanda has delivered over 800 keynote speeches to well over 100,000 millennials (over 500 schools and organizations in more than 25 states) to the very audience corporate America is struggling to connect with and motivate.

Amanda was given the nickname of the “Millennial Translator” by a group of college students after one of her many college speaking engagements. These days, she’s putting that name to good use preparing millennials inside companies to achieve greater impact and success. At the same time, she helps company leaders engage top millennial talent in ways that maximize their creativity and contributions. For over 15 years, Amanda has proven that she not only knows and understands corporate America, but she also knows and understands the millennials themselves.

As a consultant with Innolect, Amanda partners with corporate internal resources to develop strategies to attract, engage, develop and retain millennial talent as the next generation of leaders. Because of Amanda’s ability to grasp and articulate the millennial’s state of mind, she helps reverse the devastating effects of low company morale, productivity and ultimately, gains positive momentum and adds to the bottom-line by more effectively engaging employees to work together across generational lines. Her co-authored book, The Millennial-Manager Bridge: Millennial Engagement, Development and Retention, will be published in 2017.

Amanda continues to work with college and university groups to prepare and develop their leadership skills as they transition into corporate America. She understands how incredibly important it is to prepare millennials BEFORE they reach the workforce to accelerate their integration. Amanda currently serves as the Corporate Board President of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (aka HOBY) Foundation of Georgia where she leads a team of passionate volunteers to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.

Michael brings a unique combination of experience in operations, marketing, organization development and human resources.  He has held senior management positions in healthcare, utilities, and education.  He is a seasoned executive coach and consultant who brings a keen understanding of what it takes to develop strategy and achieve objectives.

Michael lived in Brazil for six years where he was COO of a midsize company, ran his own business and taught at the Federal University. He speaks fluent Portuguese and can communicate in Spanish. He has family that lives in Brazil and has visited many times over the last 25 years. He has a particular interest in and affinity for cultural issues affecting leadership, team effectiveness and talent management.

Most recently, Michael served as Chief Human Resources Officer for a multi-billion dollar enterprise.  In that role he had over 400 reports from five departments.  Michael’s consulting style is very down-to-earth, relationship oriented and results oriented.  He has acquired an intimate understanding of the deep challenges that leaders face translating organizational strategies to practical performance in the workplace.  Michael offers insights into language and the cultural dynamics that affect communication, change management and alignment of high level business initiatives with the realities of retention and talent management.

Michael Fleming - Talent Development Project“Dr. Fleming is a down- to- earth advisor and coach.  He has lived through most issues that leaders face. He’s very hands on practical – good listener, straight talker.”

Senior VP — Utility Industry

“Having lived in Latin America and speaking the language, Michael has been a huge help balancing US and Latin approaches to business – especially corporate politics, culture, and communication.  That was a big advantage in working with him.”

Senior Director — Pharmaceuticals Industry

“Michael takes the ‘work relationship’ very seriously, but is also a good friend. My wife and I had dinner with him several times and had good talks. He followed up with me past the term of the coaching engagement.  He checks in with ideas and to see how I am doing months, even years after, our formal connection is over.  I like that.”

VP — Pharmaceuticals Industry

“As a coach, Mr. Fleming uses two approaches that worked well with me: he is very much into real time work – ‘get it done’ strategies, but also keeps us talking about my career goals. He helped me think through what is working for me personally, and what is not. I think a lot about where I am heading in the future and how I can get there. I know that my boss, peer, and subordinate relationships impact my success.  He gets that.  A smart guy.”

Larry L. Barker, Ph.D. – Legacy Leader

Consultant

Larry Lee Barker, Ph.D.

November 22, 1941 — June 18, 2016

Larry L. Barker, Ph.D., a mentor, advisor to, consultant with and friend of Innolect, left his indelible influence on the foundations, mission and values of Innolect. A lifelong student, Larry was committed to a spiritual practice that combined Eastern Philosophy with Christianity. He was particularly influenced by The Fourth Way, an approach to self-development described by George Gurdjieff and explored more fully by P.D. Ouspensky and Maurice Nicoll. He lived by the premise:

“A man who wants to awaken must look for other people who also want to awake, and work together with them. The work of self-study can proceed only in properly organized groups. One man alone cannot see himself. But when a certain number of people unite together for this purpose they will even involuntarily help one another.”– G. I. Gurdjieff

Born in Ohio, Larry was an internationally published author, consultant, musician and educator and true renaissance man. He received his Ph.D. in organizational communication from Ohio University at the age of 23 and became the youngest person awarded the distinction of full professor in the field of Communication at 28. Larry achieved distinction through numerous publications, including over 40 books and 100 research articles on such topics as group facilitation, listening, nonverbal communication, creativity and coaching. He co-authored a number of Innolect’s products including Listen Up!, Winning by Thinking Around, the Listener Preference Profile, Watson-Barker Listening Test, and Advocacy-Inquiry Skills Indicator.

A sought after consultant and executive coach, Larry served as President of SPECTRA Incorporated from 1979 to 2000 and as a senior consultant with Innolect Inc., from 2000 to 2016. As a consultant, Larry facilitated hundreds of sessions for teams ranging from line employees to top executives spanning healthcare, banking, oil and gas, utilities, pharmaceutical and government agencies such as U.S. Army and U.S. Air force. His clients appreciated his ability to combine a sharp, focused facilitation style with a personal touch. He used uncanny creativity and innovation to help clients think “out of the box.”

Larry’s many honors and accomplishments included both research and teaching awards, interviews on ABC’s 20/20, the Golden Quill Award and a Grammy nominated Billboard Top 10 song. He aslo wrote songs with Butch Trucks of the Allman Brothers, Lionel Ritchie of the Commodores and “Big Bill” Morganfield, son of Muddy Waters. Larry is also listed as one of the Top 20 blackjack players in the world.

We miss him and are thankful that his legacy lives on through others…

Practice Leader - Sustainable Legacies Program

Sustainable Legacies Practice Leader, Excursion Learning Practice Leader

To promote lasting legacies, Becky spearheads Innolect’s efforts to partner clients with non-profit organizations that will maximize leaders’ development opportunities. She also leads Innolect’s efforts to create powerful and relevant excursion learning team offsite events.

Given Becky’s positive outlook, it’s only natural that she would rely on appreciative inquiry to build on clients’ past successes. She uses powerful questions to help leaders gain insights about how to successfully balance task-oriented challenges with complex human needs.  While she focuses on leveraging strengths, she also helps clients manage potential derailers. Thanks to her extensive knowledge of creativity and innovation, she is a problem solving partner who surfaces the root cause of thorny issues and then uses objectivity and intuition to identify lasting solutions.

In addition to her extensive facilitation and training experience, Becky coaches others in how to improve their work climate for maximum inclusion, productivity and profitability.  Her supportive, questioning approach has resulted in positive career changes and enhanced individual, team, and business results. Clients include Moen, USF&G, Pfizer, Entergy, Best Software, FedEx, Freightliner, DHS, Whirlpool, Bank of America, TJX, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Federal Reserve Board and Pepsi.

Co-author of Leadership Coaching — The Fast Track to Effectiveness and a pocket book on creativity, Winning by Thinking Around, Becky sees every day as a fresh canvas of possibility, whether it’s new opportunities for her clients or her own watercolor paintings. She gives back to her community in a number of ways including pro bono work with non-profit organizations and building homes for Habitat for Humanity.

“I’ve hired Becky Ripley on several projects.  Her depth of expertise in a variety of areas, including leadership development, organizational effectiveness, cultural change, and team development, is unmatched.  She asks insightful questions to efficiently and accurately identify the root causes of specific challenges.  Her design skills, which are grounded in solid theory, result in pragmatic, systemic solutions to complex business challenges. The icing on the cake is that she is absolutely delightful!  I look forward to the next time I need a highly skilled, insightful consultant so I can hire Becky for the work.”  Amy Jo Young, Global OD/OE Leader, Moen Inc.

“My company hired Ms. Ripley to help me transition from a ‘bleeding-edge, fast-paced and project oriented’ environment  to a ‘collaborative and supportive’ environment.  I had to learn the new environment quickly, adopt a new style and continue quality delivery while improving my organization’s technology. She used her analytical and observational power to study the situation and then created a coaching process tailor-made to my style.  She listened to me, collected feedback from my environment, and helped me gain an appreciation for the collaborative culture. Ms. Ripley did not suggest that I sacrifice my current quality or modify the existing traits that had worked for me so far, but rather helped me learn new skills and behaviors that are helping me succeed in the new environment.”  Manager, Federal Reserve Board

“Becky is a long-time trusted consultant spanning two employers (Radiofone and Stewart Enterprises).  With Radiofone, we were faced with establishing a human resources function.  Given that I had very little HR experience at the time, we retained Becky who very quickly and thoroughly assessed the Company’s HR needs and produced a proposal which reflected exactly the areas that needed to be addressed — spot on! She then delivered solutions which not only met our needs, but surpassed them.  With Stewart Enterprises, we engaged Becky for several strategic and talent management initiatives from team-building to instructional design and delivery.  She is a proven innovator and a pleasure to work with.”  Kathy Lamkin, HR Director, Stewart Enterprises, Inc.

Becky Ripley has helped our management team develop and successfully deal with growth and change over the last 10 years.  We grew from a small “Mom & Pop” operation to over 500 employees. She has conducted group leadership training, conflict resolution training, and has provided individual coaching to help us work through some thorny issues.  Becky is well respected for her ability to put people at ease by listening well and understanding the employee’s point of view. She maintains a professional, objective approach to all, interjecting much needed humor where appropriate.  Becki Gentry, HR Manager, DHS Systems

IMG_1837“Becky was fantastic! She’s knowledgeable, confident, and presented information clearly, while making the content fun. I’m leaving with new ideas and a fresh perspective.”  Manager, Health Care Industry

“Becky is a dynamic, energetic facilitator whose talents we exclusively use to teach our Human Resources Generalist class.  Participants consistently rave about her professional presence, approachability and facilitation style that truly adds to the learning process. We have partnered with her for the past 5 years to and will continue this alliance as long as she will have us.”  Senior Training Specialist, Retail Industry

Steven has served on the adjunct faculty at Boston University’s Graduate School of Management in the Department of Organizational Behavior. He has lectured at Boston College, Harvard University, Queen’s College of the City of New York, and Tufts University. As a Boston Globe travel correspondent, he covered the over-wintering sites of the monarch butterflies in the mountains of Mexico. “Steven is remarkable in his ability to inspire optimism that change for the better really is possible.  He found the perfect balance of offering me support and challenge to help propel me forward in my career and help me lead my team to unexpected new places.”

Senior Executive, Fortune 100 Consumer Goods Company

“During our work together, I learned a great deal from Steven’s creative insights and practical pragmatism.  I found both qualities just what I needed in examining my own strengths and what was required to set and meet even higher standards for myself and my team.  Our work together was perspective shifting, uplifting, and extremely beneficial.”

Senior Leader, Management Consulting Firm

“Steven Holt is simply the most gifted and agile facilitator of process with whom I have had the pleasure of working.  He is intuitive, learned, personable and creative.  Indeed, it is his creative instincts and utterly brilliant skills in group dynamic leadership and complex problem solving that allow him to meet each person or group ‘where they are’ and then facilitate a process that allows them to reach their ‘desired outcome.’  He has helped me harness the creative insights and energy of staff, board members and the public — serving me and my entire organization very well, for which I am exceedingly grateful.”

General Manger, Public Radio Station

“Among Steven’s many gifts is his ability to be a clear communicator.  On many occasions I have experienced a deepening of my thoughts and feelings as a result of Steven’s exquisite listening skills.  He also expresses bold and strong opinions of his own, and somehow those do not preclude him from being able to hear, encourage, and value other’s ideas.  I have never seen anyone use models and frameworks so agilely and simply.  He is a strong leader, an excellent collaborator, and loves playing in the innovative/creative ‘sandbox.’   Ideas are important to him.  He’s someone who easily holds many moving parts to a process in his mind.  He is compassionate, open minded and smart.  He has the remarkable talent of keeping front of mind what the ultimate goal or objective is and yet, somehow, he stays fully present to the current moment of process.  In one of the models I use in my work, as it relates to coaching, I encourage executives to be Present, Caring, Inspiring, and Rigorous.  Steven exemplifies each of these qualities.”

She is driven by a personal mission, “To learn and grow every day and help others do the same.” Kittie maintains her integrity and focus to learn from even the most difficult situations. In fact, after her first coaching assignment with my team, I was compelled to write a letter to Kittie conveying what I observed during our client experience. Below are some excerpts:

  • She teaches that sometimes it hurts to hear certain forms of feedback but that this very painful awareness could lead to changes in behavior which will then result in real progress.
  • She uses discernment, and demonstrates fairness and humility.
  • She preserves another’s dignity – even after they have wronged you.

  • She always ensures she knows the facts!”                    VP, Pfizer
