How Can We Choose to See Differently in 2025?

“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” — Anais Nin

Have you ever visited the PEEPERS website? It offers a wide variety of glasses, including readers, sunglasses, blue light glasses, and non-prescription options. One notable feature is the ability to use your camera to see what the glasses will look like on your face before purchasing them.

For those who have ever had a new pair of glasses, you know that trying them on for the first time can be disappointing—especially if your vision is so poor that you couldn’t clearly see your reflection in the mirror. Adjusting to a new prescription may cause headaches. Fitting them on your nose and ears can be uncomfortable, and adapting to the new “look” may make you wonder, “What was I thinking?” However, as we repeatedly wear them, we adjust, especially with our need to “see.”

Similarly, each new year gives us an opportunity to look for ways to improve and experiment with doing things differently and seeing others in a new light. Our habitual ways of seeing can impede our ability to change our perspectives, meet others where they are, and make uncomfortable changes in ourselves.

As we start this new year, we encourage you to be intentional about your choices to improve both personally and professionally. We challenge you to mindfully LOOK to see things differently than you have in the past. Rather than looking for things that are wrong in the world or in others, identify what is right and good. Consider choices and experiments to improve relationships, your own health and your outlook—one day at a time. Choose to listen to others more deeply for what they are not saying. Choose to look for what you appreciate in others and see their strengths. Finally, see how you can make a positive difference when you adjust your thinking.

Putting on new glasses or trying something different requires an adjustment, yet over time we adapt and are generally glad we made the change. We see more clearly, notice things we hadn’t before, gain new insights, and ultimately bring more kindness into the world. The choice to “see” differently, even when it’s uncomfortable, can help us meet others where they are and encourage them to open their eyes to also see and celebrate differences.

Like getting new glasses, later stages of adult development also allow us to see differently. One of Innolect’s differentiators is our focus on vertical development. In this month’s newsletter, we featured our new strategic alliance relationship with Global Leadership Associates (GLA). We are thrilled with this alliance, and we believe that together we will better our world. Look for more information on vertical development in future blogs and newsletters this year.
